What is a Great Desert Walk ADE Survey?
A Unique Walking Experience
First and foremost, please note that our surveys are not “camel riding safaris.” All our surveys are walking journeys through remote, untouched areas, supported by our team of pack camels. These surveys offer the ultimate desert bushwalking experience, granting access to places few, if any, ever visit.

Some surveys encourage active participation, where you may contribute to the day-to-day operations of your trek or expedition. This might include assisting our cameleers with tasks such as shepherding the camels as they graze in the evenings, saddling and loading equipment under supervision, or lending a hand with other camp duties.
The spirit of each day is shaped by the natural rhythm of the camels, and the landscape’s geographical features. Flexibility is key, and meeting the desert on its terms and embracing “desert time” is part of the experience.
If you’ve never trekked with camels before, don’t worry. Many of our trekkers are first-timers who know little about camels at the start of the journey. By the end, they often leave with a deep appreciation for walking with these extraordinary animals.
Above all, the camels enable us to Walk with Purpose through Slow Travel: a vital approach for observing, documenting, and truly understanding the intricate nuances of the Munga-Thirri landscape.
